On Feb. 1, the Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps is scheduled to unveil a new Web site to provide assistance to individuals who need a will, power of attorney or those who just have a legal question.

The Air Force Legal Assistance Web site, www.aflegalassistance.com, is designed for active duty and Reserve members, retirees and dependents.

It was created to increase efficiency and track client satisfaction with the Air Force legal assistance program. Since it is a public site, clients may access the site's features from their home computer without the use of a common access card.

The site's features include the following:

- Legal topics: The site includes short articles about common legal assistance topics such as wills and family law issues. It also contains links to other helpful sites.

- Legal worksheets: The worksheets provide access to online questionnaires for wills, living wills and powers of attorney. After completing the online worksheet, the Web site provides each client a unique "ticket number."

After receiving a ticket number, a client may take it to the legal office. An attorney or paralegal will then access the client's data, which is secure, using the ticket number. This method allows the client to reduce the amount of information they need to bring, which streamlines the legal office's process to some degree.

Many clients have visited a legal office to obtain a will or other legal document and realize after arriving that they need to gather more information or documents from home. Sometimes a client realizes they need to speak with their spouse about an issue. Completing an online worksheet will help minimize these multiple visits.

In addition, clients will be able to consider critical issues prior to visiting the legal office by filling out an online worksheet.

- Online survey: Following a visit to the legal office, clients are encouraged to provide feedback concerning the helpfulness of our legal professionals.
While the Web site increases convenience for clients, individuals should note the following.

-Information on the Web site is for educational and informational purposes only. It cannot replace consultation with the local JAG and Airmen should never rely solely on the Web site when making decisions.

-Clients will not have the ability to print a legal document (will, power of attorney, etc.) from the site. Clients will need to visit the legal office and provide their ticket numbers to obtain their legal documents.

- The Web site is designed for client convenience, but no one is required to use it prior to visiting the legal office.

The 23rd Wing Legal office looks forward to provide continuing service for Moody's legal needs and sincerely hopes individuals find this Web site helpful. The legal office values feedback concerning the Web site and the services they provide as they continue to look for ways to better serve the base.

Individuals are encouraged to visit the Web site the next time a legal issue arises as well as visit the legal office during operating hours.

It's important for individuals not to forget their ticket numbers.

Powers of attorney and notaries are conducted on a walk-in basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Other legal assistance is provided on an appointment-only basis 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.
