The Airman and Family Readiness Center invited local community experts to host a Home Buying and Selling Seminar here Feb. 18.

The informal event was designed so eight panelists in attendance could share their knowledge and host a Q-and-A session with guests.

"The purpose of this event is to assist our military members with preparing them to achieve their home buying and home selling aspirations," said Naomi Hendricks, 23d Civil Engineer Squadron housing manager.

Hendricks and other Moody Housing Office representatives started the event with preliminary questions to direct the flow of conversation.

One attendee sought guidance on the process of purchasing another home.
"I'm trying to get a feel about the home selling aspects because I plan on retiring in a couple of years," said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kevin Strickland, 23d Maintenance Operations Flight maintenance instructor. "I already bought a home in a spur of the moment situation and I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to be more successful next time."

Among things that can help people like Strickland, the panelists highlighted several tasks they felt were necessary for a successful home buying and selling experience.
Among those tasks, panelists discussed the importance of sprucing up a property to attract a buyer, the advantages of getting a home inspection, understanding and capitalizing on market fluctuation, and understanding financial boundaries.

Hendricks said the seminar is an important part of what the Moody Housing Office provides to base members.

"Quality housing referral and relocation services and working with the local community leaders to provide adequate community housing information is one of our main goals," said Hendricks.   "The community leaders we invite to be on the panel are the experts in their fields.  They can answer the questions the members might not think about as they begin the process of buying or selling their home for the first time."

Strickland said the event was a positive experience and that he learned a lot in the process.

"I appreciate this event and opportunity," said Strickland. "I like how they set up the panelists with their names on display, how they introduced themselves and stated what services they provide. I definitely plan on reaching out to some of the panelists for additional assistance to learn more about some things."
