MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- After approximately two years of inoperability, the Giant Voice System, used for crisis communication and emergency management exercises, is restored and set to begin regular activations at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, Dec. 9, 2024.
The schedule for daily Giant Voice notifications is as follows:
Reveille and To the Colors – Monday to Friday at 7 a.m.
Retreat and National Anthem – Monday to Friday at 5:00 p.m.
Taps – Monday to Friday at 10 p.m.
Quiet hours for the Giant Voice will be 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Sunday, except for Taps and any real-world events that pose significant danger to the Moody AFB populace.
Personnel on base are reminded to render the proper customs and courtesies when the Giant Voice plays Reveille, Retreat, the National Anthem, and Taps, as to respect the U.S. Flag.
Reveille, To the Colors, Retreat and the National Anthem
In accordance with AFI 1-1, Air Force Standards: When outside and in uniform, consistent with safety and mission requirements, Airmen stop what they are doing, face the direction of the flag (if visible) or the music. Stand at parade rest during the sounding of retreat (which precedes the lowering of the flag), then come to attention and salute during the playing of the National Anthem or “To the Colors.” If driving a vehicle, stop if consistent with safety and mission requirements. Airmen and their passengers should sit quietly until the music ends.
Taps
In accordance with AFI 1-1, Air Force Standards: Many installations play “Taps” to signify lights out at the end of the day. For these purposes, there are no formal protocol procedures required. However, upon hearing “Taps” at a military ceremony (military funeral/memorial ceremony), proper protocol dictates Airmen in uniform render appropriate honors consistent with protocol for the National Anthem, indoor and outdoor, until the music is complete.
As a reminder, the Giant Voice system is used to notify the base populace about Mission Oriented Protective Posture levels, alarm conditions, active shooter alerts, Force Protection Conditions, changes, recalls, and natural disaster warnings.
For information on alarm conditions, refer to the Airman’s Manual, AFTTP 3-4, which can be found on the Department of the Air Force E-Publishing website. For information on natural disaster warnings, reference the table below.
