A number of construction initiatives for fiscal years 2008 and 2009 will result in more than $65 million worth of new construction and improvements to upcoming facilities and pre-existing buildings and structures at Moody.

"We are currently working on making long-term improvements to the base," said Bill Bryan, 23rd Civil Engineering Squadron chief engineer. "Those improvements are being realized through Base Realignment and Closure initiatives, Air Combat Command funding, the newly passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, demolition programs and military construction initiatives."

Airmen will begin to see of ten projects progress during 2009, all of them a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the stimulus package President Barack Obama recently approved.

Projects will include a new roof for the building 932, and new concrete pavement around the HC-130P/N Combat King aerospace ground equipment yard on the aircraft parking ramp.

A part of the Moody's of the long-term improvement plan include building a new child development center, two new community activity centers and new base lodging facilities.

John Eunice, 23rd CES deputy commander, identified numerous construction projects that were already underway.

"There are a number of initiatives that are on-going projects," added Mr. Eunice. "The 120-Airmen dormitory, a new A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft engine shop, a relocated security gate and the 38th Rescue Squadron Maritime Operations center are just a few examples of some of the initiatives already taking place on base."

The remaining projects the 23rd CES has planned for 2009 began March 1 and will continue through the end of the year. Construction for the larger projects will last well into 2010.

In total, the construction programs planned for 2009 include more than 25 projects and more than $65 million in improvements.
