A group dedicated to the Airmen's health and well-being at Moody recently received an Air Force level award for outstanding programs during 2008.

The 23rd Medical Group's Health and Wellness Center was named the best in the Air Force for Small Base Health Promotion Program in 2008. The HAWC offers a variety of classes designed to help Airmen and their families deal with issues ranging from quitting tobacco to stress management.

"During 2008 we worked extremely hard," said Master Sgt. Rachael Clark, HAWC health promotions flight chief. "A collective effort from all the program managers helped produce a winning product that was recognized at the Air Force level."

The health promotions group who won the award also included:
- Tech. Sergeant Chelsea Montgomery, HAWC health promotion NCO in-charge.
- Tech. Sgt. Timothy Hill, HAWC fitness information manager.
- Senior Airman Terri Coleman, HAWC diet therapist.
- Tara Vig, HAWC health education program manager.
- LaTonya Cornell, HAWC exercise physiologist.

The group of health and fitness specialists maintained focus throughout the year with one simple statement, "Your health is our mission," said Ms. Cornell.

During 2008, the HAWC staff estimated that they saw anywhere between 1000 to 1500 individuals per month.

One initiative that has been a huge success is the Micro-Fit Program that began in July 2007.

The program is a computerized fitness assessment that measures a person's flexibility, muscular strength, cardiovascular abilities and more.

After the program assessment, individuals receive suggestions on how to improve their weak areas, from stretching techniques to proper weight lifting practices.

It was initiatives such as the Micro-Fit program, which lead to the HAWC's ability to serve the Airmen at Moody with the distinction of being the best in the Air Force for a small base, said Mrs. Vig.

"It's been a distinct pleasure and honor serving Moody's community," echoed all of the 2008 HAWC staff. "This past year created many fond memories and we are looking forward to carrying on our success into 2010."
