Fifth Airman assigned to 23rd Wing lost from Afghanistan helicopter crash Published July 3, 2010 By 23rd Wing Public Affairs 23rd Wing Public Affairs MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Air Force officials have announced the loss of a fifth Airman from an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter which crashed in southeastern Afghanistan June 9. Capt. David Wisniewski, 31, an HH-60G helicopter pilot assigned to the 66th Rescue Squadron, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., passed away at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., July 2, from injuries received during the incident. Four other Airmen were killed and two others were wounded. The Airmen were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and responsible for casualty evacuation. A memorial service will be held at Nellis Air Force Base, a date and time for the service will be announced at a later date. The Air Force has also identified two injured Airmen from the helicopter mission. They are: Capt. Anthony Simone, a helicopter pilot assigned to the 66th Rescue Squadron and Tech. Sgt. Christopher Aguilera, an aerial gunner assigned to the 66th Rescue Squadron. Both Airmen are recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The Airmen are assigned to the 563rd Rescue Group a geographically-separated unit of the 23rd Wing. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
