Weekly Announcements Published April 25, 2011 MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Publication submissions To publicize an event on the Moody public website, send all pertinent information to 23wg.pa2@moody.af.mil. All submissions must be received by noon on Thursday the week prior to publication. The Valdosta Daily Times has assumed publication responsibility of the Moody Volunteer, so submission doesn't guarantee publication. All articles or briefs are subject to editing. For more information, contact the 23rd Wing Public Affairs office at 229-257-4146. Georgia Military College Registration for GMC will be going on until May 6. For assistance with registration, the Moody office located at the Education Center can help. Community College of the Air Force classes are available at Moody with sch'edules geared to meet an individual's needs. There is also a full college schedule at the schools Valdosta campus. For more information contact 229-244-7323. Family advocacy programs An Active Parenting of Teens class is scheduled to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 3, 10, 17 and 24 at the Base Chapel. This is for parents of teens 13 to 18 years old. Topics covered will include discipline methods, clear communication skills, strategies for preventing risky behavior, bullying and depression. A Great Expectations class is scheduled to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., May 10 in the Family Advocacy office. Expectant parents will learn about resources available on base and off base for assistance during the pregnancy and information on Tricare, nutrition and exercise. A Prevention Anger Management class is scheduled to be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m., May 3, 10, 17 and 24. There is no documentation placed in the medical record for attending this class. Motorcycle safety rider coaches wanted The 23rd Wing Safety Office is looking for 12 motorcycle riders who are interested in becoming rider coach instructors. The office will be hosting a certification class from June 7 to 17. This certification is an opportunity to teach new riders the correct way to ride. If the member is interested in becoming a rider coach, contact the Safety Office or their unit safety representative for qualifications and an application. Protocol office looking for next NCO The Moody protocol office will continue interviewing for the NCO position during the months of April and May. The office is looking for eager NCOs to volunteer to represent the 23rd Wing and Moody. The protocol office consists of one company grade officer and one NCO. The interview process will consist of an interview with the protocol office, shadowing of events, event coordination, and an interview with the wing commander. General prerequisites include: · Member must be a staff sergeant or technical sergeant without a line number for master sergeant. · Must have the recommendation and approval from the member's chain of command. · Must be willing to work long hours and some weekends. · Member must be able to be released for protocol training by May 1 and begin full time by June 1. Duties and responsibilities vary in scope and depth: · Planning events often several at a time · Facilitate and direct events · Advise the wing commander and other key players For more information, call the protocol office at 229-257-4144/2656. Hometown News release submissions Airmen can submit a DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release, electronically by clicking on the link via either the internal base website or the public website, www.moody.af.mil. Submissions can include a photo: minimum output 150 dpi, image size 4x5 to 5x7, JPEG format - compressed no lower than 60 percent, and saved as the submitter's last name. Appropriate newsworthy events for submission include promotions, graduations, new assignments, awards, decorations, reenlistment, retirement, etc. Submissions are reviewed by 23rd Wing Public Affairs before forwarding to the Army and Air Force Hometown News Service. Toastmasters Club Moody's Toastmasters Club is scheduled to hold meetings Thursdays at 11 a.m., in room 203 located in the Education Center. During meetings, members learn ways to practice and hone skills in communication and leadership. For more information, call 229-257-4734. The Moody Spouses Club The Moody Spouses Club is open to active duty, retired, Reserve, enlisted and officer spouses of any military rank and branch of service.
