Recycling at Moody Published Oct. 1, 2012 By Elvis Lane 23d Wing Public Affairs Moody Air Force Base, Ga. -- Did you know that Moody has an active Recycling Program? How knowledgeable are you about recycling on base or in general? Do you know how to properly dispose of unwanted trash, office furniture and everyday items? Questions such as these can be answered at your Civil Engineer Squadron. Studies show that most people are willing, and in fact, quite happy to recycle. However, sometimes the effort to recycle is dismissed by those who are uneducated. Yes, I said uneducated. You must have that knowledge and awareness just like any other subject matter if you wish to recycle properly. If you have questions on how to get rid of any unwanted material, just contact us. The refuse bin, or dumpster, is not always the answer. It is used only for office trash or contaminated items that are non recyclable. To help our recycling efforts here at Moody AFB, beginning Oct. 1, Moody's Recycling Center, also known as the Solid Waste Management Facility (SWMF), will expand its hours of operation from two days per week to Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. As part of the 23d Civil Engineer Squadron's Qualified Recycling Program, Southern Recycling Industries (SRI) will staff the facility with the expanded hours of operation to increase convenience to the base populace for disposing of large bulk items that are too large for dumpsters. This will also increasing the amount of recyclable materials (scrap metal, cardboard, aluminum cans, wood pallets, batteries, electronics, paper, etc.) that can be processed and recycled. All personnel are asked to segregate recyclable materials from trash items and place material in proper bins within the SWMF. SRI personnel will assist base personnel by identifying proper containers for the different types of waste streams and recyclable materials.
