The 23d Medical Group is teaming up with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. During the month of May, the medical group challenges Team Moody to include 30 minutes of physical activity each day. Getting active increases your chances of living longer and can help you: · control your blood pressure, blood sugar and weight. · raise your good cholesterol. · prevent heart disease, colorectal cancer and Type 2 diabetes. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend two hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. Moderate activity includes walking fast, dancing or raking leaves. It is recommended to perform strengthening activities, like sit-ups and pushups, at least two days a week. Physical activity improves sleep, strengthens bones and lowers the risk of depression. Here are some tips for getting active: · Aim for at least two hours and 30 minutes of moderate activity each week. This includes things like walking fast, dancing or biking. · Do muscle-strengthening activities at least two days each week. Be sure to strengthen all major muscle groups including the legs, hips, back, chest, stomach, shoulders and arms. No matter what shape one is in, together, we can rise to the challenge of getting more active during the month of May.
