MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The 23d Medical Group (MDG) pharmacy will begin enforcing the Defense Health Agency Policy DHA POD-MEMO 19-001 governing the pharmacy’s fulfillment of medications classified as a Tier 3 non-formulary by the DoD Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
As of March 2, 2020, Tier 3 non-formulary medications will be no longer available for beneficiaries who are enrolled to off-base care providers. This enforcement is not a new Defense Health Agency policy, but a restatement of a long-standing Health Affairs Policy HA Policy 04-032.
The pharmacy staff may continue to fill prescriptions for Tier 1 and Tier 2 formulary medications written by any provider.
To effectively disseminate this change in policy before it is fully enforced, all affected beneficiaries will receive information as they pick up their Tier 3 prescriptions from Nov. 18, 2019, to Feb. 28, 2020. The information will include a letter that details information about the policy, frequently asked questions graphic and booklet that details the TRICARE Home Delivery program.
The 23d MDG leadership suggests that those affected should discuss this information with their healthcare provider or pharmacist to see which one of the following options is best for them:
- Continue filling current non-formulary prescriptions through the TRICARE Home Delivery program, which may offset co-pay costs.
- Have their primary care provider change their prescription to an alternative formulary medication available at our military treatment facility.
