Restoring its former glory

Air Force Master Sgt. Scott McCoy, 19th Air Support Operations Squadron first sergeant, paints historical markings on the C-47 with tail number 42-100828. The C-47, currently on display at Fort Campbell, Ky., is a significant part of the 101st Airborne Division's World War II history. The plane was involved in every major airborne and glider-borne assault in the European Theater of operations, to include Operations DRAGOON, MARKET-GARDEN and VARSITY. The aircraft also dropped paratroopers from the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, now known as the 4th Brigade Combat Team, "Currahees," into Drop Zone "C" at J+30, roughly 1:15 a.m. June 6, 1944.
