23d CES lead the way during readiness training

Senior Master Sgt. Victor Yañez, left, 23d Civil Engineer Squadron (CES) operations flight chief, 2d Lt. Kelsie Crouch, center, 23d CES project manager, and Senior Master Sgt. Robert Shuman, right, 23d CES exposal ordnance disposal flight chief, walk the flightline during airfield recovery training, May 23, 2019, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. The training consisted of Airmen responding to a simulated bombed airfield to perform the proper steps and procedures to ensure rapid airfield damage repair in real-time. The training prepared the Airmen for potential threats that they could face while downrange. During the training, the engineers developed options to provide a minimum airfield operating strip which is based on the minimum length and width of runway needed to launch and recover the assigned or controlling aircraft for that location. “The Airmen have to understand their individual role and responsibilities, how this works in concert with other CE AFSCs, and why this is important to the Air Force mission,” said Lt. Col. Francis, 23d CES commander. “As long as the Air Force operates off airfields, Civil Engineers will need to learn and sharpen these skills.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Erick Requadt)
