THUNDER: 74th EFS receives Gallant Unit Citation

Gen. Mike Holmes, left, Air Combat Command commander, poses with the 74th Fighter Squadron (FS) during the Gallant Unit Citation presentation, March 14, 2019, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. When deployed, the 74th FS becomes the 74th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS) which distinguished itself by extraordinary heroism while supporting Operation INHERENT RESOLVE and engaging with an opposing force from July 15, 2017, to Jan. 15, 2018. The individual combat actions help to demonstrate the exceptional degree of professionalism, dedication to duty, gallantry and heroism that separates the 74th EFS from other fighter units. Five Distinguished Flying Crosses, seven Single Event Air Medals and 83 Air Medals with “Combat” Device were awarded to squadron members. The 83 “Combat” devices represent that nearly 100 percent of 1,600 sorties were flown under significant risk to self. The unmatched ability of 74th EFS pilots prevented a strategically catastrophic aircraft loss and prevented countless civilian and friendly deaths without degradation to their primary mission, ultimately leading to the decisive defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
