Controlled fires enable Avon Park Air Force Range mission
A pararescueman from the 38th Rescue Squadron rides a hoist back into a 41st RQS HH-60G Pave Hawk during a ‘spin-up’ exercise, Dec. 13, 2016, at Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida. Avon Park AFR serves as an air and ground training complex for the military. To mitigate the risk of an uncontrolled wildfire during times of drought, the Avon Park Wildland Support Module works year round employing prescribed burns and other wildland management tools. The WSM is part of the Air Force Wildland Fire Center, a mission of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Environmental Management Directorate at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
