New recommendation
A recent recommendation from the American Cancer Society says women with an average risk for breast cancer should start regular screening mammography at the age of 45. Women between the ages of 40 and 44 still have the option for annual mammograms, but the new recommendation may prevent unnecessary stress and anxiety in women who undergo screening due to false-positives. During a false-positive, women have to go through many steps to find out if the spot in the breast is cancerous or not. It can be a lengthy process, anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
