The Moody Thrift Shop recently moved to building 843 near the Base Exchange, in the space that most recently housed the Army and Air Force Exchange Service Power Zone.

This move was due to the demolition of the old building that began in January.

Over the last two months, more than 800 volunteer hours were logged transforming the new building into a space that would fit the Thrift Shop's needs.

Thrift Shop volunteers and active duty personnel worked side by side to lay new carpet, construct hanging rods and mount hardware, rearrange shelving units, paint cubicles and shelves, and pack, box and move all the items from the old store.

All the hard work paid off, and the Thrift Shop volunteers are proudly ready to show off their new location.

Beginning April 13, the store will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The store is a great place to shop, consign, donate or volunteer.

Shoppers can find furniture, kitchen appliances, household items and decorations, clothes, shoes, collectibles, DVDs, books, toys, baby accessories, sporting equipment and much more.

Until further notice, consignments will be accepted on Tuesdays and Fridays from the hours of 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Consignment forms can be picked up at the Thrift Shop during normal business hours. A volunteer will gladly explain the process to new consignors. The shop also accepts donated items, but please do not leave them outside when the store is closed.

There is a limit of up to 20 gently used items for consignment per day, 10 of which can be clothing or shoes. Consigning is a simple way to clear out unused items in your house, make some extra money or lighten your load before an upcoming permanent change of station.

Consigning or donating items to the Thrift Shop is not only easy, it's also a great way to give back to the Moody community.

The Thrift Shop is run by the Moody Spouses Club, and all proceeds go toward scholarships for active duty dependents, as well as other base and local charities.

It relies on volunteers to stay open, so manager Laura Dunning is always looking for new volunteers! Stop by or call (229) 257-3965 for more information.
