The Lt. Dan Band is scheduled to perform for Airmen, families and their guests Sept. 15, at the President George W. Bush Air Park at Moody Air Force Base.

Gary Sinise, the actor who played Lt. Dan Taylor in the film "Forrest Gump," formed the Lt. Dan Band in early 2004 to entertain service members at home and abroad.

The event is scheduled to kickoff with food and games at 1 p.m., with the playing of the national anthem at 2:50 p.m. and the concert starting shortly after at 3 p.m.

The event is free and open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders and their guests, including family and friends. Guest without an ID card must be escorted onto base by a cardholder.

"The whole idea behind bringing them here is to bring in the Airmen and families, and just celebrate what we do," said U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Leif Lindblom, event organizer for Moody. " ... We are really encouraging everybody to bring their families and just make this an all-day affair of it, and go out to have a good time."

There will be food, drinks and beer available for purchase at the event. Event organizers encourage people to bring blankets and chairs as there will be limited seating near the front of the stage.

The following items will be prohibited in the Airpark beach umbrellas and large ice chests. Approved items include lawn chairs, standard size purse, standard size diaper bag, standard size backpack, regular umbrellas, towels and blankets (no public seating available).

Airmen are encouraged to park at their work centers and walk to the air park. Parking will not be available at the Parker Greene Base Support Center or the 23d Medical Group.

There will be shuttle pick ups at Quiet Pines, Magnolia Grove, green running track parking lot, Fitness Center, Bldg 663, Bldg 707, Bldg 727, Hickam Street (west side of Fitness Center) and the SPOT.

The Davidson Road Gate and the South Gate will be open to all vehicles, but the North Gate will be open to pedestrian traffic only.

The Lt. Dan Band is part of the Gary Sinise Foundation and is performing for no cost to the audience.

"At the Gary Sinise Foundation, we serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need," the Gary Sinise Foundation website states. "We do this by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities."
