Moody Air Force Base, Ga., is scheduled to host Retiree Appreciation Week Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 to honor retired service members.

The week will consist of a base tour, demonstration from military working dogs, health and information fair, free flu shots, bingo, and a golf tournament. There will also be specials and discounts here on base. This year's theme is "Remember, Honor and Serve."

"We set aside a week to honor retirees of all grades and branches, to let them know that they are still an important part of the military and that they are appreciated for what they've done in the past," said retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. James Ingram, 23d Wing Retiree Activities Office director.

Ingram has been in charge of the retired community here since the late 1990s.

"When we first began organizing, it was a one day event," said Ingram. "We began to expand and decided to extend it to a whole week leading up to Retiree Appreciation Day."

Each year, Ingram invites retired service members and their families from South Georgia or North Florida to join in the various activities scheduled for Retiree Appreciation Week.

"It's important to serve those who paved the way for us present day service members," said 2nd Lt. Jacob Cannon, 23d Force Support Squadron deputy community services flight commander. "If it wasn't for those before us, most of us would not be where we are today. It's important to show that we do care about them."

Although separated from the military, Ingram mentioned that he enjoys staying active in the retiree community.

"I spent 30 years in the Air Force, and I know from experience that it makes them feel good to know that they are not forgotten," said Ingram.
