MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga -- The Department of the Air Force has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that analyzes the potential environmental effects of the beddown of two F-35A aircraft squadrons at Moody Air Force Base (AFB). The F-35A beddown program is closely synchronized with the planned retirement of A-10C aircraft currently based at Moody AFB. The F-35A aircraft operations at the Moody AFB airfield and training operations in special use airspace would replace and expand upon those operations currently conducted by the A-10C aircraft being retired from Moody AFB. Following the completion of the F-35A aircraft beddown, there would be an increase of 165 personnel over the current baseline personnel requirement at Moody AFB to support the two F-35A squadrons. New facilities and infrastructure would be constructed, modified, and renovated at Moody AFB to support the two F-35A squadrons’ operations. The EIS addresses the potential environmental consequences resulting from implementation of the Proposed Action and a No Action Alternative. Under the No Action Alternative, the A-10C aircraft at Moody AFB would be fully divested, and there would be no beddown of F-35A aircraft.
The Department of the Air Force and the 23rd Wing has made the Draft EIS available to the public for review and comment. The project website provides information on how to submit comments on the Draft EIS. To ensure the DAF has sufficient time to consider public input in preparation of the Final EIS, please submit written comments by September 28, 2026.
The Department of the Air Force will host a virtual public meeting to provide the public with the opportunity to learn more about the proposal and provide input. The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time). The virtual public meeting will consist of a presentation followed by a public comment session that will give individuals the opportunity to provide written comments.
