MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Team Moody conducted a comprehensive active-shooter exercise Nov. 17, 2025, testing the base’s lockdown procedures and reaction plans, and demonstrating the installation’s unwavering focus on the safety of its Airmen and families.
Despite the majority of Moody’s Airmen supporting Mosaic Tiger — a combat readiness exercise spanning across three locations in South Georgia and north Florida — the base excelled in a highly realistic scenario, showcasing its ability to maintain a honed level of readiness even when stretched thin.
“Exercises like this prepare us for the worst,” said Master Sgt. Sashia Euley, 23d Security Forces Squadron training and evaluation section chief. “As we’ve seen over the past few years, active-shooter incidents are, unfortunately, becoming more common. The more we practice, the better our members are prepared to handle the stress and challenges these situations bring.”
The exercise kicked off at Moody Heritage Hall with simulated gunfire, prompting volunteers to rush from the building, screaming and seeking cover, while others remained inside to portray wounded victims. The shooter was concealed somewhere within the Heritage Hall, setting the stage for first responders to arrive, neutralize the simulated threat and provide aid to the role-playing casualties.
The rapid and coordinated response from the 23d SFS, 23d Medical Group and the 23d Civil Engineer Squadron underscored the effectiveness of Moody’s training and preparedness. On-base responders rapidly neutralized simulated threats and provided immediate assistance to simulate wounded victims, showcasing their expertise and commitment to base security. The success of this exercise, conducted with limited on-base resources, is a testament to the exceptional training and dedication of Moody’s Airmen.
“I think all agencies — fire, emergency medical services, law enforcement, first responders — should practice often because you never know when it’s going to happen,” said Staff Sgt. Matthew Billek, 23d SFS base defense operations controller. “Security forces, fire, EMS — we always train to stay ready.”
Successfully executing such a realistic and demanding exercise while simultaneously supporting a major deployment exercise showcases Moody’s agility and adaptability in uncertain scenarios. This unwavering commitment to exceeding the standard of readiness ensures Moody remains a cornerstone of national defense, prepared to confront any threat, regardless of the challenges.
