The contained wildfire at Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida, is expected to be extinguished following predicted rainfall throughout the week.

The fire, ignited by a lightning strike on the evening of May 5, 2025, affected approximately 4,400 acres near the center of the 106,000-acre installation and is under control using pre-established firebreaks, or vegetation-free areas designed to stop or slow the spread of wildfires.

The wildfire remains confined to an isolated area and currently poses no threat to the public. The heavy smoke in the area has mostly dissipated as the fire burns out.

As a precaution, community members are reminded to monitor local air quality alerts and take necessary precautions in the event of wildfire smoke exposure.
