The Moody Field Club hosted a grand opening for its upgraded outdoor deck April 22, 2021.

The two-tier area served as a place for individuals to meet, eat and decompress, and the grand opening solidified its position at the MFC.

“The purpose of the deck is so the Moody Field Club can attract more Airmen and host more food-related events and activities,” said Mandi Rice, 23d Force Support Squadron MFC manager. “The top part of the deck is mainly for dining, and the bottom part of the deck is more of a lounge area. It’s a place to hang out with coworkers, family and friends.”

The MFC installed the deck in 2019, but it has undergone some cosmetic changes since then.

“Originally, the deck was made of wood, but there was a lot of upkeep because it was constantly being weathered by the elements,” Rice said. “We (added) new furniture, we have two fire pits for when the weather cools down, and the deck is concrete now.”

For Chief Master Sgt. Jimmy Wilfong, 23d Wing command chief, the improved deck is beneficial for Team Moody, given the socially distanced obstacles of the pandemic.

“I think it’s super helpful to have an area like this especially with COVID-19,” Wilfong said. “I think it will draw more people out here. The new seating gives more options and is more family-oriented. I think it’s a big win.”
