Moody's squadrons vie for bragging rights at Super Sports Day '07 Published Sept. 7, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Spencer Gallien 23rd Wing Public Affairs MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- A day of sports and competition between all Moody squadrons is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Sept. 21 and includes a free lunch with burgers, hot dogs and soda. Airmen, civilian employees and family members are all welcome to represent their squadron in an effort to take home the coveted overall first place position in the 2007 Super Sports Day. Super Sports Day offers an opportunity to boost base morale and provide camaraderie between Team Moody Airmen, said Tammy Turnmeyer, the Fitness and Sports Center director who is also spearheading Super Sports Day. "Team Moody is invited to join in about 21 events including a 3 Point Shoot-Out, Tennis and the crowd favorite; a Tug of War event that will conclude the day's competitions," said Mrs. Turnmeyer. The first sports fishing competition is also scheduled this year and will feature a competition at Grassy Pond. Members of Team Moody will also be able to watch the Chiefs vs. Eagles softball game at 9 a.m. on softball field number one, which features chief master sergeants taking on the colonels. More than 3,000 Team Moody members represented their respective squadrons at the last Super Sports Day in 2005. "Currently we are projecting to have more participation this year, hopefully with 100 percent squadron participation," said Tech. Sgt. Michael L. Francis, 23rd Services Squadroprogram coordinator for the Super Sports Day. Every event will have a first, second and third place squadron earning points for its perfomance. Points will also vary between individual and group competition. A unit can also earn points when squadron members volunteer to help with sports day activities instead of participating directly in a competition. The squadron with the highest score takes home the first place Super Sports Day trophy and bragging rights for the next year. "The 23rd SVS is really looking forward to seeing Team Moody come together through sports and positive competitiveness," said Sergeant Francis. "Our goal is to have maximum participation with minimum injuries."
