Moody Airmen still have time to help their fellow Air Force members through the 2008 Air Force Assistance Fund "Commitment to Caring" campaign which ends March 31.

When Airmen fall on hard times financially, the AFAF is there to help.

"It offers Airmen an opportunity to help other Air Force members and their families in times of need," said Capt. John Darity, AFAF installation project officer. "Every penny raised here goes to the charity in which it was designated."

The fund was established to provide monetary support to charities that support Air Force families, including active duty, retirees, reservists, guard members and their dependents and surviving spouses.

These charities, which include the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Villages, Air Force Indigent Widows' Fund and The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, provide Airmen with an opportunity to take care of their own.

Each Moody unit has a designated key worker, who has the responsibility to personally contact each military member and provide them with the information and chance to donate.

"No one is authorized to track who has or hasn't donated; only that every individual has been contacted and given the opportunity," said Captain Darity.

When asked if he planned to donate the captain said, "Absolutely, it's a great program. It allows us to help fellow Airmen overcome hardships."

There are several ways to donate including cash, check or money order. The simplest and most convenient way, to donate, however, is through a payroll allotment, added Captain Darity.

AFAF campaign is geared specifically toward military, he said. Civilians are not solicited but are welcome to donate. However, they may not use the payroll allotment option.

"There is a suggested giving guide and if every one donated the suggested amount for their rank, Moody has the potential to double our 2008 goal," the captain said.

All contributions are tax deductible.
