Spring clean; CES to collect, dispose unwanted items Published April 21, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Frances Locquiao 23rd Wing Public Affairs MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Moody's 23rd Civil Engineering Squadron is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Spring Cleaning Event April 25-26 to dispose of unserviceable and hazardous items around base. This year's event will concentrate on cleaning up the main base facilities during the first day and Moody's Base Housing the next, said Tech Sgt. Joseph Tison, 23rd CES quality assurance evaluator and event coordinator. "Airmen are encouraged to gather broken and unserviceable tables, chairs and desks around their shops," Sergeant Tison said. "They can place those items beside the nearest dumpster to be picked up. Hazardous items such as paint, cleaning supplies and chemicals should be taken to the HazMart." For the base housing clean-up, the housing contractor will pick up the items, while the hazardous materials can be turned in to the housing office. All the non-hazardous items disposed will be transported to the recycling center on base. "The purpose of the event is place emphasis on the importance of general facility clean-up," he said. "We want to maintain a clean workplace for everyone. By removing large quantities of unwanted items, Airmen can have an enjoyable place to work." In addition, a donation truck will be parked at the youth ball field parking lot. "There will be an opportunity to donate smaller personal items to Goodwill," said Sergeant Tison. "It will save Airmen time from going to the actual donation site." Last year, the 23rd CES collected more than 60 cubic yards of recyclable and non- recyclable materials. Also, there were 15 gallons of used paint and chemicals collected. "Our goal is to collect more unwanted items this year," he said. "We also want to teach Airmen different ways to dispose unserviceable and hazardous items throughout the year." For more information, call 257-2198.
