Moody Airman remembered in memorials Published Aug. 13, 2008 By 23rd Wing Public Affairs MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- An Airman who died August 5 will be remembered in two memorials Friday. Master Sgt. Norma Barnes, 45, was the non-commissioned officer-in-charge of personnel for the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing. Although she had only been with the 93rd for a few months, she was part of the 23rd Flying Tigers Wing for many years. Sergeant Barnes' husband, Steve Barnes, is the base's commercial sponsorship coordinator under the 23rd Force Support Squadron and is very involved with the local community. Because of their involvement with the base and surrounding community, Sergeant Barnes will be remembered in a memorial service for Moody AFB personnel 9 a.m. at the Base Chapel followed by a public memorial 6:30 p.m. at the Northside Baptist Church, 200 East Park Avenue, in Valdosta. "Master Sgt. Norma Barnes has been part of the team Moody family for many years. Her impact on Moody and this community will be remembered for years to come, and she will be sorely missed," said Col. Kenneth E. Todorov, 23rd Wing commander. "Her absence will resonate within all of Moody's Airmen and our families as we send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the Barnes family." Sergeant Barnes was buried yesterday morning in Missouri. The family has requested in lieu of flowers to send donations in Sergeant Barnes' name to the Moody AFB First Sergeants' Association.
