Moody's library is scheduled to relocate approximately Oct. 1 to the old Military Personnel Flight building located behind the Freedom I Fitness Center.

The old library building will be demolished in order to make room for another base project, the Heritage Park static display.

"I am very excited for the new library," said Holly May, base library director. "It's a step forward in a sleeker, more modern look for the Airmen and base community to enjoy."

One of the things new about the library will be a bigger circulation desk and a glass-front children's room, which will be used primarily for story time and special activities.

"The glass-front children's room also has a computer with an attached web cam," said Mrs. May. "It is available for those who would like to communicate with deployed Airmen."

In addition, there will be new bookshelves and new furniture, including study carols.

"The bookshelves ordered will be specific to what it's meant to store such as DVDs and picture books," said Mrs. May. "There will be more desks where individuals are able to study. Also, there will be furniture dedicated to young adults."

Since the library will share the building with the education services, there is also a quiet room which will be open after library hours of operation. They hope that students participating in off-duty voluntary education programs will use the facility more often.

"The students who have late classes can utilize the quiet room for studying," said Mrs. May. "The library door remains closed for the security of property."

The square footage of the new library is approximately the same as the old one; however, the library plans to use the space more efficiently.

"The layout will be more efficient," said Anthony Duncan, computer specialist. "Everyone will be able to know where everything is and it won't look as compact."

The computer lab will also have a glass front and extra desks.

"We won't be getting more computers, but the new library will be built for growth," said Mrs. May. "There might be more in the future, so we think of that while we plan as well."

Even though there will be a vast majority of new furniture, the old furniture will not go to waste.

"It will be used for the staff such as our offices," said Mrs. May. "The old book shelves will be located in the acquisition technician room, where books are stored before placing in the book shelves."

The new library will be functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time, said Mrs. May.

"I would like people to come in and feel like it's a bookstore," she said. "I hope that more would want to come and spend as much as they could."
