A new running club on base will be opening its doors to all Moody personnel interested in living a healthy, active lifestyle.

The Moody Running Club will be hosting its first meeting at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 in the Moody Field Club enlisted bar where all Moody personnel and their families can learn more about the organization.

"We want to form a relaxed environment, where like-minded Airmen can get together and do what they love...run," said Staff Sgt. James Barton, 23rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron unit fitness program manager. "Our goal is to attract all types of runners, from beginners to advanced; we will tailor the program to their needs."

The group is aiming toward a goal of meeting twice a week; however, Sergeant Barton pointed out that he currently runs five-six times a week and would welcome anyone from the club to join him.

The group already designed a T-shirt that Moody runners may purchase. They are also designing a singlet for competitive runners to wear while in competition.

Tech. Sgt. Rodney Elliott, who is helping Sergeant Barton put together the club, said that some members will be training for various competitions, but they welcome anyone who's interested in physical fitness and being in shape.

"We really want to get everyone involved," said Sergeant Elliott. "From someone who's simply interested in improving their mile-and-a-half, to a runner who's training for an upcoming marathon--we will train with everyone."

Sergeants Elliott and Barton also wanted to distinguish the difference between the running club and what the marathon club was.

"The marathon club was strictly for Moody members interested in training for marathons," said Sergeant Elliott. "Right now I'm training for a 100-mile race in Alabama, and we will train for any number of events, as long as what we're training for has to do with running."

Our real goal is to get people involved, added Sergeant Elliott. We're not strictly here to compete; we want people with personal goals.
