Though it's almost the end of holiday season, the 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron has a few tips to keep our planet 'green' after the festivities.

-To reduce trash, recycle or reuse wrapping paper. Greeting cards and gift packaging can also be recycled.

-For the toys that require batteries, buy rechargeable ones instead to reduce the amount of potentially harmful materials thrown away.

-If a Christmas tree can't be planted, take it to a drop-off site where they can be turned into mulch or clippings for other purposes.

Residents may drop off their used Christmas trees from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 26 - Jan. 3. The main collection sites are:
-Home Depot on Norman Drive
-Super Wal-Mart on Inner Perimeter
-Mathis City Auditorium on Ashley Street

Those who drop off their trees on Jan. 3 at the main collection sites will receive a free tree seedling in exchange for each tree recycled.

Other satellite sites include:
-City of Hahira on the corner of Lawson and Lowndes streets
-Lowndes County Public Works (550 Gil Harbin Boulevard)
-Valdosta YMCA (2424 Gornto Road)

For more information regarding Christmas tree recycling, call (229) 671-2499.
