Congressman Jack Kingston recently announced that Alexandra Scott, 16-year-old daughter of Tech. Sgt. Michael Scott and Jennifer Scott, is the recipient of the Bronze Congressional Award. Congressman Kingston presented Alexandra with the medal at a reception held at America's Second Harvest Food Bank in Valdosta, Ga., on March 30.

"I congratulate Alexandra on her achievement and I am proud to present her with this award," said Congressman Kingston. "Receiving this honor says a lot about Alexandra's character and strong self-motivation, and she has succeeded at this achievement while giving back to her community. When we volunteer, we find out more about ourselves as people while at the same time helping others."

Alexandra logged many volunteer and community service hours that qualified her to compete for the award. She prepared food boxes for senior citizens at Second Harvest of South Georgia food bank in Valdosta. She also supported the local theater by assisting in concession operations and providing backstage assistance during production.

Alexandra also completed many other achievements such as an outdoor adventure camping trip at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and a five-kilometer run, which fulfilled the physical fitness requirement of the award.

Alexandra applied for consideration for the medal through the Youth Programs at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. She was advised by Jennifer Kalinowski on the requirements of the award. Alexandra made weekly appointments to meet with Mrs. Kalinowski to make sure all requirements were being satisfied.

"We are very proud of Alexandra," said Nikki Bennett, 23rd Force Support Squadron director of youth programs at Moody. "She can be seen throughout the Valdosta and Moody Air Force Base serving the community, volunteering and entertaining us with her theatrical productions. It is a true honor to have her as part of our community."

The Congressional Award Program is a non-competitive program open to 14-24 year olds in the United States regardless of prior or current achievements, life circumstances or physical or mental ability.

The award recognizes young people for achieving individual goals in four areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration.
