23rd MDG now offers FluMist vaccination Published Sept. 10, 2009 23rd Medical Group MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The 23rd Medical Group now has the intranasal influenza vaccination FluMist available. Active duty, Guard, and Reserve personnel, along with Department of Defense civilian and contract workers may receive their vaccination at the Immunizations Clinic from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or from 8:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Immunizations Clinic is a walk-in clinic and no appointment is needed. Mass influenza lines will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sept. 15-17 at the Base Theater. DoD policy states influenza immunizations are mandatory for all Active duty, Guard and Reserve personnel. In accordance with the Air Combat Command Influenza Immunization Program Guidance, Moody is required to maximize use of the live, attenuated, intranasal vaccine, the FluMist. The injectable influenza will be reserved for those individuals with contraindications to the Flumist. Contraindications include: persons younger than 2 years of age or older than 49 years of age; with severe allergy to eggs; a history of serious reactions to past intranasal influenza vaccine; with long term health problems such as heart disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney disease, metabolic disease (diabetes), anemia, or other blood disorders; with a weakened immune system due to disease or medications and/or in contact with severely immune compromised patients; and during pregnancy.
