(Editor's note: This is the second of a two-part series on the varied career of 1st Lt. Vincent Adamo, who currently serves as the 23rd Wing's assistant installation deployment officer.)

After spending the larger portion of a decade as an enlisted Tactical Air Control Party member, Lieutenant Adamo decided it was time for a change. However, remaining 'in the fight' was still a large motivater for him.

Lieutenant Adamo attended Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, Pa., and earned his commission June 15, 2007 through the Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.

He then spent three months receiving his official military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Tex., to become a logistics readiness officer. Currently, Lieutenant Adamo serves as the 23rd Wing's assistant installation deployment officer.

The jobs of an IDO is to direct, control and coordinate all installation deployments, create and publish all local guidance concerning deployments, ensure the installation meets all preexisting deployment requirements, and manage the installation's cargo and personnel deployment preparation.

"I really wanted to remain tactical when I became an officer," said Lieutenant Adamo. "Becoming a logistics readiness officer and more specifically an installation deployment officer really allows me to remain in the fight.

"I'm tactical on a larger scale," he added. "Instead of being the one sent out to accomplish the mission, I make sure everyone is safely processed out of and on to base. I get to tell them 'job well done' when they get back."

Being a logistics readiness officer has reaffirmed Lieutenant Adamo's decision to become an officer.

"Logistics has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs I've ever had," said Lieutenant Adamo. "I work with professionals on a daily basis and I'm afforded the ability to think big picture here while serving as the assistant IDO."

Throughout the Lieutenant's career, he has been given the opportunities to be a leader whether it's in combat situations abroad or at home prepping Airmen who will follow in his footsteps.

"As an installation deployment officer, Lieutenant Adamo has been given an awesome responsibility," said Capt. Ryan Hardeman, 23rd Wing installation deployment officer. "He's really been given the opportunity to affect the lives of Airmen on a more personal level."

Lieutenant Adamo has always had a positive way about him and his ability to affect the lives of the people around him, added Captain Hardeman. From being able to lend a helping hand, to offering words of advice, the lieutenant's strength lie in his ability to relate to his Airmen.

"His skill set really lies in his people skills," added Captain Hardeman. "He truly cares about people, wants to mentor them, and is honestly just good to his people."

It is because of this Lieutenant Adamo's next goal is to eventually become an OTS instructor at Maxwell AFB.

"I would love to be actively engaged in the shaping of future Air Force leaders," said Lieutenant Adamo. "OTS was a defining moment in my life and I would love to help develop future officers."

For the Moody Airmen that will be processing through the Deployment Control Center in the future, Lieutenant Adamo will be there to make sure that their deployment or re-deployment is as safe and smooth as possible.

"As a co-worker and friend I know that Lieutenant Adamo will be remembered for the job he's done as a Logistics officer," said Captain Hardeman. "He's a very good officer, who works hard to excel at any task set in front of him."
