Moody will witness the start and completion of several base construction projects throughout 2010.

"Moody is taking giant strides to enhance the base for its Airmen and their families," said John Eunice, 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron deputy commander. "The Air Force approved $100 million of construction during fiscal year 2009 for the base, more than twice the total amount of construction the base had received in any previous year."

Construction for the majority of these projects is scheduled to be completed or started in 2010. However, due to unforeseeable events, completion dates may change.

- The Child Development Center will accommodate 276 children and it will be located next to the north gate, where the wing commander's house used to be. The estimated completion date is scheduled for March 2011.

-The 120-person dormitory will provide single, unaccompanied Airmen their own rooms. They will share a bathroom and kitchenette with individuals in adjoining rooms. The estimated completion date is scheduled for February.

-The Dormitory 570 renovation project will include installation of individual air conditioning and heating units, and provide a renovation and facelift for each of the rooms.

-A new commercial gate on the southwest corner of the base will provide state-of-the-art security to the main base entry point. The estimated completion date is scheduled for April.

-The Community Activity Centers will be built adjacent to the Bowling Center and building 400 (next door to the Freedom I Fitness Center). The center adjacent to the bowling center will house 23rd Force Support Squadron functions and serve to provide additional recreational opportunities for Airmen along with an expanded bowling center snack bar. The center adjacent to building 400 will provide additional fitness rooms for aerobic classes supporting the fitness center.

-The Heritage Park will provide static displays of historic aircraft, a Heritage Center and an administrative building. The Heritage Center will feature pictures, artifacts and mementos of the Flying Tigers, combat search and rescue, and security forces warriors.

-Expansion and renovation of the Commissary is underway and scheduled for completion in May 2011.

-The flightline dining facility will be located in building 623, the former transient alert facility, and the estimated completion date is 2011.

-The consolidated engine repair shop will provide the 23rd Maintenance Group an adequate facility to properly maintain A-10 engines.

-The Youth Center will be renovated to expand the facility and accommodate more activity rooms. The estimated completion date is July 2011.

-The new base swimming pool will be located on the corner of Hickam and Gardner Streets, between building 400 and the fitness center.

-The 23rd Medical Group Dental Clinic addition is scheduled to be completed in March.

-The live ordnance loading area project will expand the current hot cargo pad and provide a pavement area for the safe loading of munitions on up to six aircraft.

-The new Billeting Office and additional Transient Living Facility and Visiting Quarters will provide six additional TLF rooms, 13 new visiting quarters and a new billeting lobby.

-The 820th Security Forces Group firing range upgrade will provide additional capability to support the weapons training for the group.

-The airfield pavement repairs will include new pavement from the transient ramp to the fighter ramp, provide striping for the new hot pit, new air ground equipment parking area for the HC-130 ramp and a new intrusion detection system for the flightline.

-The A-10C Thunderbolt II flight simulator project will provide the necessary power, cooling and other support work for the installation of two simulators and is scheduled to be completed this month.

"All of this work means great things for Moody, but with this progress comes some inconveniences such as heavy construction traffic, closed roads and closed parking lots," said Mr. Eunice. "The 23rd CES and their contractors are working to minimize these inconveniences and will notify the base as far in advance as possible for any closures or outages."
