Moody BAC impacts quality of life Published June 21, 2010 By Capt. Anthony Myers, 23rd Logistics Readiness Squadron Ann Lukens, 23rd Force Support Squadron MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- There is a little-known committee at work on Moody that has a big impact on the quality of life on the installation. The Base Advisory Committee (formerly Base Advisory Council) has been in operation for more than 13 years. The BAC gives commanders at all levels an added communication link with Moody individuals. The purpose of this link is to exchange ideas and solve problems at the lowest possible level. The main goal of the committee is to help commanders identify and solve problems that can affect the morale and welfare, therefore, the level of personal and family readiness of their people. The BAC is composed of unit representatives and serves as an advisory group to the 23rd Wing's vice commander. The council identifies, discusses and recommends actions on issues affecting Moody personnel and families. Over the years, ideas and suggestions discussed during the BAC have made a positive and direct impact on the quality of life of Team Moody. Below are some examples: · Moody Sober Ride Program (1997): Senior leadership was exploring ways to provide safe transportation and reduce the number of driving under influence incidents affecting the base and community. The Moody Sober Ride Program, a suggestion during a BAC meeting, began as a "grass-roots" solution to reducing the number of DUIs both on base and in the local community. This group, made up of all volunteers, is still in operation today. · Automated External Defibrillators (June 2009): When AEDs were mandated to be placed around the base, it was a representative of the BAC that brought the issue to leadership and pushed for purchase and implementation of these life-saving devices. · Shoppette hours of operation (March 2010): Extended hours of operation for the Shoppette has been brought up and addressed several times for action with the BAC. Personnel and families now have access to Shoppette services 24 hours a day thanks to the persistence of the members. · Traffic patterns (June 2010): Traffic at the gates and around base is a topic that affects all Moody personnel. Due to the suggestions offered at the BAC, we have been able to implement a number of traffic pattern solutions. The Moody Traffic Working Group has conducted a survey of traffic patterns and will soon begin changing base traffic signs to make traffic flow easier and safer. In addition, they have extending the traffic light timing on Bemiss Road during evening hours and lowering the "Tiger Teeth" at the gates to facilitate faster traffic patterns at the gates. Participation in the BAC has many benefits for Moody personnel, both military and civilian. It provides an opportunity for personnel of all ranks and grades to interact with senior leadership in effort to implement positive change for the entire Moody Community. Additionally, Airmen have a chance to meet and work with other Airmen and employees from all base organizations that they might not otherwise get the opportunity to do so. This networking may prove to be invaluable when working other projects. The Moody BAC leadership and members encourage base personnel interested in a rewarding opportunity to work on projects that benefit the Moody community to participate in the BAC as squadron representatives. It's an excellent way to become part of a solution that improves Moody for all. The BAC has many avenues for personnel to submit ideas or suggestions they feel will have a positive impact on morale, welfare, and the level of personal/family readiness of Team Moody. 1. Personnel can contact their unit BAC representative with their issue or idea and they will bring this to the next BAC meeting. Individuals who do not know their unit BAC representatives can e-mail moodyafbbac@moody.af.mil. 2. Personnel can e-mail issues or ideas to the BAC Council directly at moodyafbbac@moody.af.mil. 3. Personnel can post an anonymous submission to the 23rd Wing BAC Web Forum at https://acc.eim.acc.af.mil/apps/WebForum/23WGBAC/default.aspx.
