The oldest Air Force active-duty operations group dedicated to combat search and rescue is deploying together for the first time in many years.

"Team Rescue," as the group is called, is comprised of the 71st Rescue Squadron, 41st RQS, 38th RQS and 347th Operations Support Squadron.

Each squadron's mission varies which will determine the length of time they spend in theater but all units will be deploying to Afghanistan.

"This will be the first time in a long time that the group has deployed as a whole," said Maj. Aaron Griffith, 71st RQS assistant director of operations. "This is a huge precedence for future events that we will have together."

The group often trains together for deployments just like this one, but this will be the first time they will be able to see that training put to use overseas.

"Being able to see if all our hard work has paid off will help our future training missions," said Major Griffith. "We will be able to find out what areas we need to work on as a group to increase the effectiveness of our training."

While deployed, the units will continue to train putting the knowledge they are learning overseas into practice.

The units that will be staying at Moody will continue their training for the next rotation.

"The deployment will not negatively affect training for the crews that are still left," said Capt. Adam Harris, 347th Rescue Group executive officer. "They will continue to train together with what they have here and will be fully prepared."

They are one of two active-duty groups dedicated to combat search and rescue who reach out to all parts of the world. The motto of the 347th RQG is "That Others May Live." The group deploys worldwide in support of National Command Authority taskings.
