This week, Moody will join millions of Americans as they celebrate the importance of recycling and all the beneficial impacts it can have.

America Recycles Day, which occurs worldwide every Nov. 15, is in its 12th year and is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.

This day will be celebrated on Moody Nov. 13 by various activities and events focusing on encouraging individuals and groups to continue acting as stewards of America's resources.

"Every individual can make a difference when it comes to recycling," said Mr. Elvis Lane, 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron environmental specialist. "We should all keep the mindset that we need to protect the Earth we're living on. This can be done by simple things such as putting your soda cans and paper products in the proper bins as well as walking instead of driving when possible."

One Moody Airman takes simple steps to do his part in reducing his carbon footprint on the earth by recycling at home and in his work area.

"In my neighborhood, they have made it very easy for us to recycle," said Tech. Sgt. Clay Morris, 38th Rescue Squadron aircrew flight equipment NCO in-charge. "We get to throw everything into one bin and put it on the corner. The crews come along and sort it for us, making it extremely easy to recycle. With this sort of ease, there's no reason not to. While at work, I continue recycling by throwing everything recyclable into the blue bins. "

Along with individuals, groups such as businesses and communities are boosting their recycling collection efforts and using new technologies to manufacture products more efficiently, said Mr. Lane.

"At Moody, we are continually striving for the best recycling program in the Air Force," he added. "We emphasize the program through reuse, reduction and treatment of materials that would otherwise be disposed of.

"The more we recycle, the better managers we become of our natural resources," he added. "Recycling is the way of the future which will leave behind a sustainable world for our children."

The recycling center is open to all base agencies, military and their families from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be reached at (229) 257-1993.
