Moody's women's varsity basketball team went up against Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., Feb. 5 here.

The Moody Lady Knights lost a close game against Maxwell-Gunter 38-32. This was their final game of the regular season bringing their record to 7-3.

As the Knights final match this was a letdown for the team as they are gearing up for their tournament at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., scheduled for Feb. 26 and 27.

The game started with Maxwell-Gunter winning the tipoff. Maxwell couldn't keep the advantage as the Lady Knights defense held them off gaining a turnover and giving shooting guard, Ashley Searcy, the chance to make the first points.

The Lady Knights fought for the lead throughout the first half, keeping the Maxwell-Gunter offense in check while making strikes against their defense.

The Knights were able to draw a foul with 10:20 left in the first half to tie 15-15. For the next three minutes both teams were scoreless until center, Altanee Manor, scored giving the Lady Knights the lead 17-15.

Scoring see-sawed until the end of the first half, but the Lady Knights remained in the lead 24-20.

"The ladies know my expectations and I think they performed very well," said Jamahl Jones, Moody women's varsity basketball team head coach. "There is always room for improvement; the team has done better and can always do better."

The Lady Knights came out into the second half putting up the first two points from Searcy raising them to 26-20.

Moody continued to widen the gap to 32-21 with 14:32 to go.

Maxwell-Gunter slowly closed the lead on the Lady Knights throughout the second half, coming within one point with five minutes left in the half.

Maxwell gained the first lead of the second half and held on to it to win with the final score at 38-32.

"This team has grown a lot with the help of the captain and a few members of this team," said Coach Jones. "We are looking forward to testing our skills during the upcoming tournament and hope to have the base's support down there."
