One of the 9th Air Force's top leaders recently visited Moody for the first time since taking on his new position.

Col. Mark Moore, 9th AF vice commander, visited leaders of the various wings, groups and squadrons here to get an understanding of the challenges they face in day-to-day operations.

"I've been to Moody many times before to visit in other capacities, but this is my first trip as the vice commander," said Colonel Moore. "The point of this visit was to help us at the numbered Air Force level get a deeper understanding of what resources Moody needs and what challenges the Airmen here are facing every day."

During his visit, the colonel was able to witness changes throughout Moody, such as the ongoing construction projects including the new Child Development Center, Commissary and Heritage Park.

"The base looks great and it's good to see so much construction going on," said Colonel Moore. "The construction projects show we're listening to what the people here need and upgrading our facilities to match that."

In addition to witnessing what was happening to change the face of the base, the colonel also sat down with several leaders to get an idea of what was happening with the mission and the people.

"During the breakfast with squadron commanders, we each got to discuss our biggest problem," said Maj. Kimberly Burt, 23rd Contracting Squadron commander. "It was great to see Colonel Moore here learning about the issues we face. It's good for leadership to know about what's going on with the people at the tip of the spear."

Colonel Moore conducts these kinds of visits and interaction with the leaders because he said it's important to know what goes on at the base level.

"It can be easy to feel disconnected with what's going on at each base if we don't reach out and have contact," he said. "That's why this opportunity was the perfect chance to reconnect with the leaders here and understand what Moody's all about."

The colonel's visit also included a demonstration of the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing's abilities and tours of some Moody facilities.
