AFSOC recruiting team The Air Force Special Operations Command recruiting team will hold several briefings this month. On April 11, there is a briefing at 10 a.m. at the Moody Field Club and at 2 p.m. in the 41st Rescue Squadron auditorium. On April 12, there is a briefing at 9 a.m. and noon in the 824th Base Defense Squadron auditorium, and 10 a.m. in the 71st Rescue Squadron auditorium. Child restraint checks The 23rd Wing Safety office is offering free child restraint (car seats, infant carriers, etc.) checks. Certified technicians are available to help install and train parents on proper child restraint usage. To schedule an appointment, please contact the 23rd WG Safety office at 229-257-4680/3776. Restoration Advisory Board The Moody Restoration Advisory Board is scheduled to meet April 14 at 7 p.m. in the Valdosta City Hall Annex, 300 N. Lee Street,Valdosta, Ga. The Restoration Advisory Board is made up of community members and Air Force representatives that meet annually to discuss activities related to the cleanup of environmental sites that were produced at Moody from past disposal practices and operations. Protocol office looking for next NCO The Moody protocol office will continue interviewing for the NCO position during the months of April and May. The office is looking for eager NCOs to volunteer to represent the 23rd Wing and Moody. The protocol office consists of one company grade officer and one NCO. The interview process will consist of an interview with the protocol office, shadowing of events, event coordination, and an interview with the wing commander. Member must be a staff sergeant or technical sergeant without a line number for master sergeant, have a recommendation and approval from chain of command, willing to work long hours and some weekends, and must be able to be released for protocol training by May 1 and begin full time by June 1. Duties and responsibilities vary in scope and depth and include planning events (often several at a time), facilitate and direct events, and advise the wing commander and other key players. Vehicle Operations hours change Effective April 1 the 23rd Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle operations hours of operations have changed. Vehicle Operations is located in Bldg. 995. Turn N' Burn Flight Kitchen midnight meals The Turn N' Burn flight kitchen will begin to serve midnight meals. The hours of operation are from 10:30 p.m. to midnight, Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The kitchen is located in Bldg. 623, right between the Fire Department and 23rd Security Forces Squadron. For more information, call 229-257-3048. Family Advocacy programs Great Expectations: Expectant parents will learn resources available on-base and off-base for assistance during the pregnancy and information on Tricare, nutrition and exercise at the next class scheduled April 12 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the 23rd Medical Group education and training Room. 1-2-3 Magic: Parents with children ages 2 to 12 can learn how to effectively discipline their children using a counting technique. The class will be held April 18 and 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Family Advocacy office. You must attend both sessions. To sign up, please email cynthia.henley@moody.af.mil. Couple's Communication Class: The Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program is a research- and skills-based program designed to help couples communicate and solve problems more effectively. The next workshop will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 22 at Grassy Pond. Attire is casual dress. Lunch will be provided. PREP is a prevention program and is not designed for couples with serious problems. Engaged couples who attend this class can receive a Georgia marriage license for $16 rather than paying the regular fee of $51. Lunch-and-learn: A lunch-and-learn on civilian legal awareness of child sexual abuse and statutory rape will be held noon to 1 p.m. on April 20 in the Base Chapel. Becoming an Air Force officer There are different methods to becoming an Air Force officer, whether it's through an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, an Air Force ROTC scholarship, the Officer's Training School program or a direct commission. For more information, briefings are held bi-weekly on the second Wednesday at 9 a.m. and the fourth Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Education Center in room 102. Call 229-257-3150 for more information. Hometown News release submissions Airmen can submit a DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release, electronically by clicking on the link via either the internal base website or the public website, www.moody.af.mil. Submissions can include a photo: minimum output 150 dpi, image size 4x5 to 5x7, JPEG format - compressed no lower than 60 percent, and saved as the submitter's last name. Appropriate newsworthy events for submission include promotions, graduations, new assignments, awards, decorations, reenlistment, retirement, etc. Submissions are reviewed by 23rd Wing Public Affairs before forwarding to the Army and Air Force Hometown News Service. HAZMART services The HAZMART office offers services such as waste minimization, hazardous waste curbside pick-up, compliance help, fluorescent light bulb disposal, waste disposal, help in completing waste profile forms, battery disposal, surplus hazardous material disposal and answering general questions about compliance with hazardous materials. Offices with excess or overstocked hazardous materials that are useable can arrange for their material to be removed by calling the HAZMART office. Useable hazardous materials will be placed into a free-issue inventory and made available to all offices that have authorization or approval to have the materials at their location. Toastmasters Club Moody's Toastmasters Club is scheduled to hold meetings Thursdays at 11 a.m., in room 203 located in the Education Center.
