There are forests all over the world being destroyed as this article is being read. Landfills are also slowly being filled until they are at capacity.

This happens day after day and that's why Moody recognized Earth Day and Arbor Day to educate all generations on how we can keep the Earth clean and healthy for us and our children.

"Earth Day is a day for everyone to become aware of what we are doing to our environment," said Elvis Lane, 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron environmental specialist. "But we try and let everyone know that Earth Day should not just be today, but every day."

The base scheduled several activities for Earth Day from April 20 to 22, including speaking at local schools, the Youth Center, and Child Development Center, and hosting an Earth Day fun run and an information booth at the Exchange.

"The reason we do this is so we can sustain what we have here on base," said Mr. Lane. "We need to work on things like disposing of hazardous materials correctly and just promoting overall awareness."

Along with Earth Day, the base also celebrated Arbor Day by planting a tree to bring the total population of trees on Moody to approximately 8,000.
"Moody has been participating for quite a few years now and we try to educate not only adults, but young children as well," said John Crain, 23rd CES base forester. "They are the ones affected by the effect we have on the world."

Every individual can do their part through practicing responsible recycling, saving energy, conserving water, carpooling and buying products made from recycled material.
