Dirt fills the air, the stands fill with friends, families cheer for their team, and the kids' eyes light up with the chance to catch a fly ball on opening day.

This was the scene May 2, the first day of Moody's intramural softball season. Teams made up from squadrons across base put forth their best players to compete for softball glory.

"The season is seven weeks long and has two leagues going on simultaneously," said Senior Airman Jacquelyne Ford, 23rd Force Support Squadron fitness specialist. "The games are open to any members who want to come and watch the games."

The leagues are Monday through Thursday, with a game at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Each game lasts one hour or seven innings, whichever comes first. If at the end of the 7th inning the teams are tied, the game continues until one team is in the lead at the end of the inning.

Once the regular season has concluded, the top four teams from each league will advance to the playoffs until one team is declared the winners.

"The reason we have intramural sports on base is because they brings everyone together," said Staff Sgt. Tyrrel Fair, 23rd FSS fitness specialist. "We are able to get a better understanding of our fellow wingmen and people in different career fields."

During the 7:30 p.m. game on the first day of the season, the MDG team played against AMXS team 1.
