The recent floods in Minot, N.D., hit close to home for two Moody Airmen. Their former home was devastated in late June by flooding not seen since 1881.

U.S. Air Force Senior Airmen Edward Rocha and Geoffrey Hamilton, 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron water and fuels maintenance journeymen, both have a special connection that spurred them to take initiative and help the citizens of Minot by raising supplies for the city.

"We both know people that live in the area around Minot that were greatly affected by the flood and could really use some help during this time," said Rocha. "The hardest part of this is to spread the word of what is going on."

The two have taken it upon themselves to collect supplies including water, nonperishable food items, toiletries and diapers to bring to Minot.

"We are collecting all these supplies from July 4 through the 8 at Bldg. 919 in the break area in the civil engineer compound," said Hamilton. "After all the supplies are collected we will be taking all the supplies ourselves up to Minot."

For Hamilton, Minot Air Force Base was his first duty station and is a place home to friends who were affected by the flooding.
Rocha holds a different connection with the area of Minot. He was raised in a town a few miles away from Minot, and many of his friends still live there.

"This is the best way we can help and support our friends and their families in Minot," said Rocha.

The two Airmen will drive approximately 2,000 miles to deliver all the items they receive. For more information contact either Tech. Sgt. Charles Bell or Tech. Sgt. Giovanni Lewis at 229-257-1405.
