The Komodo Center, an on-base place for senior airmen and below to socialize and relax, has relocated to the first-floor dayroom of dorm 573 near the Bowling Center.

It opened June 30 at its new location just in time for the free monthly meal provided by the Moody Chapel.

The center had to find a new home because its previous location in Bldg. 112 is scheduled for demolition.

Airman 1st Marcus Battle, 23rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron precision-guided munitions crewmember, was one of the first Airmen to see the new location.

"The setup was nice, they had Avatar playing on the television and someone was playing video games," he said. "I also got to enjoy some wonderful lasagna and garlic bread."

The new location is slightly smaller but still has all the accessories as the old as well as a kitchen.

"All services are free for use at the Komodo center," said Chaplain (Capt.) Tony King, one of the 23rd Wing's chaplains. "We offer chips and soda all free of charge and one night a month we offer a meal."

Not only does the Komodo Center offer meals, it also has several couches, gaming chairs, three televisions, an Xbox 360, a WII, two Playstation 3s and several games and movies to choose from.

"We want to offer Airmen a safe, alcohol-free place to come and relax," said King. "Hopefully in the future we can hold gaming tournaments, maybe play some Call of Duty or something."

The Komodo Center is open to single Airmen senior airmen and below Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 till 10 p.m. They welcome volunteers of any rank.

"If we have more participation and volunteers, we will be able to extend the hours," said King.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the Komodo Center can call the Chapel at 229-257-3211.
