All submissions must be received by noon on Thursday the week prior to publication. Feds Feed Families food drive campaign Deputy Secretary of Defense launches DOD "Feds Feed Families" food drive campaign. Food banks across the country and Valdosta area face severe shortages of nonperishable items. As summer progresses, children have limited access to school nutrition programs. Federal employees nationwide are stepping up to meet this challenge by gathering 1.2 million pounds of food for families in need this summer. The federal wide campaign offers a great opportunity to help those who lack the resources to provide food for themselves and their families. Collection points will be set up around Moody to include the Commissary and Youth Center and will be accepting donations through Aug. 31. The local food bank is experiencing a shortage of canned proteins including tuna, chicken, salmon, peanut butter and beans as well as hygiene products. For more information contact either Master Sgt. Becoming an MTI Members have the opportunity to mold tomorrow's Airmen as an MTI along with the option to return to the previous career field that member was in. These applicants can apply for a base of preference and earn an extra $450 a month as well. Senior airmen through technical sergeants wanting to advance as leaders are encouraged to apply. The members applying for this do not have to meet TOS requirements if they are on the NCORP list, 18 month TOS waivers are possible for all others. Exchange celebrating 116 years The exchange is scheduled to celebrate its 116 year of service by holding an all day event on July 25 to include a scavenger hunt, giveaways, cake and coffee, a special guest appearance from the cartoon character, Spongebob and Rudy the clown are scheduled to last from1100-1300, along with a raffle for a $116 gift card. The entries for this raffle can be made on July 25. The drawing will be held on July 26 but the participants do not have to be present to win. For more information, call the exchange at 229-257-3431 Moody Bring Your Child to Work Day Moody's is currently planning on its second annual Bring Your child to Work Day, scheduled to be held July 29. During this day, Moody opens its gates to youth in order to get a view of the bases assets and give the children a chance to see their parents in their work environment. Different scheduled events include the local police department participating with the security forces squadron by showing their cars and working dog units. LRS shuttle for 23rd Wing change of command Any personnel wishing to attend the 23rd Wing change of command ceremony July 19 at 9:23 a.m. in Bldg. 646 can ride a shuttle to the ceremony. It will begin running at 8:20 a.m. and will run for 30 minutes after the ceremony ends. Any questions can be directed to the Vehicle Operations Control Center at 229-257-3461. Blue route (runs every 10 minutes): Bldg. 646, 904, 917, 758, 588, 617, 621, 663 and 658 Red route (runs every 12 minutes): Bldg. 646, 901/Parker Green Base Support Center, 769, 795, 730, 917 and 899. Back to school physicals School and sports physicals are scheduled to be offered at the 23rd Medical Group July 21 from 1 to 6 p.m. The physicals are by appointment only. Call 229-257-2778 to reserve a slot. Paperwork required by Lowndes County, the state of Georgia and Moody base sports can be picked up at the entrance to the MDG at the desk located immediately to the left after entering through the main doors. Complete applicable paperwork prior to arrival to expedite the appointment. For any other paperwork, be sure to bring this to the appointment. Tater Tots Tater Tots is an interactive play group for mothers, father and children from 6 weeks to 3 years old. The group will be meeting each Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in the aerobics center next to the Freedom II Fitness Center. The group asks that the attendees bring small toy for their child. Hometown News release submissions Airmen can submit a DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release, electronically by clicking on the link via either the internal base website or the public website, www.moody.af.mil. Submissions can include a photo: minimum output 150 dpi, image size 4x5 to 5x7, JPEG format - compressed no lower than 60 percent, and saved as the submitter's last name. Appropriate newsworthy events for submission include promotions, graduations, new assignments, awards, decorations, reenlistment, retirement, etc. Submissions are reviewed by 23rd Wing Public Affairs before forwarding to the Army and Air Force Hometown News Service. Toastmasters Club Moody's Toastmasters Club is scheduled to hold meetings Thursdays at 11 a.m., in room 203 located in the Education Center. The Moody Spouses Club The Moody Spouses Club is open to active duty, retired, Reserve, enlisted and officer spouses of any military rank and branch of service.
