All submissions must be received by noon on Thursday the week prior to publication. The Valdosta Daily Times has assumed publication responsibility of the Moody Volunteer, so submission doesn't guarantee publication. All articles or briefs are subject to editing. Road construction Perimeter Road is scheduled to be under construction from the north end of the Airfield and move to the south until reaching the entrance to Mission Lake. This is scheduled to be under construction starting Aug. 1 and lasting approximately 90 days. Travel will be down to one lane at all times. There will be flagmen to direct traffic and delays will be minimal. Moody field club hosts DJ The Moody Field Club is scheduled to have a DJ perform Aug. 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. The music will be suitable for Airmen of all ages. The DJ goes by DJ J Ray and is scheduled to be at the club the first and third Friday of each month as an alternative to going off base and risk receiving a DUI. Moody hunter safety brief The 2011 to 2012 hunting season is quickly approaching at Moody. The base has a great program open to active duty, retired, dependents, and Department of Defense civilian personnel. If these members plan to hunt on Moody, they must attend one of the annual base hunter safety briefs which will be offered Aug. 24, 25, 30 and 31, and Sept. 1, 6, 7 and 8. The briefings will be held at Bldg. 701, located on 8219 Apron A Road, in room 201. Start time for the brief will be at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the base safety brief, hunters must obtain a Moody hunting permit through Morale Welfare and Recreation outdoor recreation supply and all applicable Georgia Licenses. If the member was born after Jan. 1 1961, they must attend a Georgia hunter safety course or provide proof of attendance at another state sponsored hunter safety course. Cunningham Airman Leadership School Moody Airman Leadership School is looking for a staff sergeant to join as an ALS instructor. Packages are due to Senior Master Sgt. Gina Thursby at the by the close of business Aug. 30. The position will be advertised to Moody personnel as well as members Air Force-wide. Deputy Secretary of Defense launches DOD "Feds Feed Families" food drive campaign Food banks across the country and Valdosta area face severe shortages of nonperishable items. As summer progresses, children have limited access to school nutrition programs. Federal employees nationwide are stepping up to meet this challenge by gathering 1.2 million pounds of food for families in need this summer. Collection points around Moody include the Commissary, Youth Center and Parker Greene Base Support Center and donations will be accepted through Aug. 31. The local food bank is experiencing a shortage of canned proteins including tuna, chicken, salmon, peanut butter and beans as well as hygiene products. For more information contact either Master Sgt. Becoming an MTI Members have the opportunity to mold tomorrow's Airmen as an MTI along with the option to return to the previous career field that member was in. These applicants can apply for a base of preference and earn an extra $450 a month as well. Senior airmen through technical sergeants wanting to advance as leaders are encouraged to apply. The members applying for this do not have to meet TOS requirements if they are on the NCORP list, 18 month TOS waivers are possible for all others. Thrift shop hour change The Moody Thrift Shop hours are as scheduled: Tuesday's and Thursday's 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., consignments will be taken on both days from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. These hours will extend through August and will resume regular hours on August 9. Tater Tots Tater Tots is an interactive play group for mothers, father and children from 6 weeks to 3 years old. The group will be meeting each Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in the aerobics center next to the Freedom II Fitness Center. The group asks that the attendees bring small toy for their child. Hometown News release submissions Airmen can submit a DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release, electronically by clicking on the link via either the internal base website or the public website, www.moody.af.mil. Submissions can include a photo: minimum output 150 dpi, image size 4x5 to 5x7, JPEG format - compressed no lower than 60 percent, and saved as the submitter's last name. Appropriate newsworthy events for submission include promotions, graduations, new assignments, awards, decorations, reenlistment, retirement, etc. Submissions are reviewed by 23rd Wing Public Affairs before forwarding to the Army and Air Force Hometown News Service. Toastmasters Club Moody's Toastmasters Club is scheduled to hold meetings Thursdays at 11 a.m., in room 203 located in the Education Center. The Moody Spouses Club The Moody Spouses Club is open to active duty, retired, Reserve, enlisted and officer spouses of any military rank and branch of service.
