Weekly Announcements: Aug. 23 to 30 Published Aug. 29, 2011 23rd Wing Public Affairs MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga -- Munitions semi-annual inventory The MASO is scheduled to conduct a 100 percent munitions stockpile inventory from Sept. 6 to 8. During this inventory, all munitions in the munitions storage area and affective areas will be frozen. They will only process emergency requests, submitted in writing and approved by the group commander, or equivalent. Iron Chef Competition and block party The Iron Chef Competition will be held at the Georgia Pines dining facility Aug. 30 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Following the competition, there will be a block party from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.showcasing 23rd Force Support Squadron community services flight's fun facilities. The Spot grand opening The Spot Entertainment Central will hold its grand opening Sept. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m. There will be free pizza, bowling and giveaways. The Spot is a community center attached to the Bowling Alley, which has video games, TVs, pool tables, an internet café and much more. POW/MIA relay run The 3rd Annual Tiger-Thon is scheduled to kick off Sept. 16 at 7:23 a.m. This is done every year to show support and respect for prisoners of war and those killed in action. Awana program now recruiting The Moody AFB Chapel is in the process of launching a local Awana program, which provides a curriculum that helps to develop spiritually strong children aged from 2 to 18. We are currently recruiting for this program, which is scheduled to be held Wednesday evening. We are going to provide a formal training for all volunteers, new or seasoned, Awana-experienced or not. We need all positions filled by the middle of August. Moody AFB golfers' opinions sought The Headquarters Air Force Services Agency has launched its second annual golfer survey at 71 courses worldwide. This survey gives Moody AFB golfers the chance to provide valuable feedback on the Quiet Pines Golf Course. Road construction Perimeter Road is scheduled to be construction from the north end of the Airfield and move to the south until reaching the entrance to Mission Lake. This is scheduled to be under construction starting Aug. 1 and lasting approximately 90 days. Travel will be down to one lane at all times. There will be flagmen to direct traffic and delays will be minimal. Moody hunter safety brief The 2011 to 2012 hunting season is quickly approaching at Moody. The base has a great program open to active duty, retired, dependents and Department of Defense civilian personnel. If these members plan to hunt on Moody, they must attend one of the annual base hunter safety briefs which will be offered Aug. 24, 25, 30 and 31, and Sept. 1, 6, 7 and 8. The briefings will be held at Bldg. 701, located on 8219 Apron A Road, in room 201. Start time for the brief will be at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the base safety brief, hunters must obtain a Moody hunting permit through Morale Welfare and Recreation outdoor recreation supply and all applicable Georgia Licenses. If the member was born after Jan. 1 1961, they must attend a Georgia hunter safety course or provide proof of attendance at another state sponsored hunter safety course. Deputy Secretary of Defense launches DOD "Feds Feed Families" food drive campaign Food banks across the country and Valdosta area face severe shortages of nonperishable items. As summer progresses, children have limited access to school nutrition programs. Federal employees nationwide are stepping up to meet this challenge by gathering 1.2 million pounds of food for families in need this summer. Collection points around Moody include the Commissary, Youth Center and Parker Greene Base Support Center and donations will be accepted through Aug. 31. The local food bank is experiencing a shortage of canned proteins including tuna, chicken, salmon, peanut butter and beans as well as hygiene products. For more information contact either Master Sgt. Becoming an MTI Members have the opportunity to mold tomorrow's Airmen as an MTI along with the option to return to the previous career field that member was in. These applicants can apply for a base of preference and earn an extra $450 a month as well. Senior airmen through technical sergeants wanting to advance as leaders are encouraged to apply. The members applying for this do not have to meet TOS requirements if they are on the NCORP list, 18 month TOS waivers are possible for all others. Tater Tots Tater Tots is an interactive play group for mothers, father and children from 6 weeks to 3 years old. Hometown News release submissions Airmen can submit a DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release, electronically by clicking on the link via either the internal base website or the public website, www.moody.af.mil. Submissions can include a photo: minimum output 150 dpi, image size 4x5 to 5x7, JPEG format - compressed no lower than 60 percent, and saved as the submitter's last name. Appropriate newsworthy events for submission include promotions, graduations, new assignments, awards, decorations, reenlistment, retirement, etc. Submissions are reviewed by 23rd Wing Public Affairs before forwarding to the Army and Air Force Hometown News Service. Toastmasters Club Moody's Toastmasters Club is scheduled to hold meetings Thursdays at 11 a.m., in room 203 located in the Education Center. Active Parenting of Teens Parents of teens ages 12 to 18 can learn how to communicate and discipline effectively, gain respectful behavior from their adolescent, solve problems together as well as talk about violence, bullying, sex, alcohol, and drugs. The next class will be Aug. 30 and Sept. 1, 6 and 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Base Chapel conference room. You must attend each session. Anger management prevention class The next class will be held on Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Family Advocacy Office. Great Expectations Expectant parents will learn resources available on-base and off-base for assistance during the pregnancy and information on Tricare, nutrition and exercise at the next class scheduled on Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the 23rd Medical Group education and training room. Please call Family Advocacy at 257-4805 for information or to sign up. 1-2-3 Magic During this course, parents with children ages 2 to 12 learn to use a discipline management program for controlling obnoxious behavior, encouraging good behavior and strengthening your relationship. The program involves counting to your child when negative behavior occurs. The class will provide you with specific consequences to use. The next class will be Sept. 14 and 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Base Chapel. You must attend both sessions. Couple's Communication Class The Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program is a research and skills based program designed to help couples communicate and solve problems more effectively. The next workshop will be held Sept. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grassy Pond. Attire is casual dress. Lunch will be provided. PREP is a prevention program and is not designed for couples with serious problems. Engaged couples who attend this class can receive a Georgia marriage license for $16 rather than paying the regular fee of $51.
