U.S. Air Force Col. Billy Thompson will sign a donation Feb. 6 at the Spot to kick of the Air Force Assistance Fund (AFAF).

The AFAF will start Feb. 6 and run through Mar. 16. Moody's goal is to raise $81,379.

The AFAF was established to provide an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and their dependents, including surviving spouses in need.

These organizations help Air Force members and their families with aid in case of an emergency, with educational needs, or to have a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of Air Force members in need of financial assistance.

The Air Force Aid Society provides Airmen and their families with worldwide emergency financial assistance, education assistance and an array of base-level, community-enhancement programs. For more information about these programs, visit www.afas.org or call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 229-257-3333.

The Air Force Enlisted Village near Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., was founded in 1967 to provide a safe, secure and dignified place for indigent widows of retired Air Force enlisted members. For more information, visit www.afenlistedwidows.org.

The Air Force Village in San Antonio provides retirement living with access to continuing health care for military officers who served honorably and their spouses, with priority to retired Air Force officer widows and widowers in need of financial assistance. For more information, visit www.airforcevillages.com.

The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation helps widows of all Air Force retirees, both officers and enlisted, through financial grants of assistance. For more information, visit is www.lemay-foundation.org.

There is a chart available that shows the suggested donation amount by pay grade with Airmen giving about $20 and increasing with grade. If everyone gave the suggested donation, Moody would raise $162, 758.

"It is important to donate to the AFAF, because all the money raised goes to help Airmen," said Capt. Tanya Wallace, AFAF installation project manager. "Last year, $210,924 was distributed here at Moody, but only $65,807 was donated. On average, bases receive two to four times more assistance dollars than was raised during the fundraiser."
