Terry Yonkers, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Logistics, visited Avon Park Air Force Range, Fla., April 18, to gain education and understanding on the range's unique capabilities.

During his visit, Yonkers also met with Avon Park and Moody Air Force Base, Ga., officials to speak on challenges and concerns that have recently surfaced due to a pay cut within the range's environmental flight which translates into the ability to support threatened and endangered species.. The visit was part of a five-base, state-wide tour by Yonkers where he plans to learn more about each installation and their impacts on the local communities around them.

Avon Park Air Force Range is located in central Florida on 106,000 acres. It is an air-to-ground training facility utilized by all branches of the military. In addition to preparing our nation's troops, APAFR provides 82,000 acres of land for public use and over 2,000 additional acres for military, Department of Defense employees and veterans. The Fish, Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Program in cooperation with other programs on the range manages wildlife and habitats using scientific practices including species surveys, game size and bad limits, rotational prescribed burning and timber management.
