The 23d Medical Group is teaming up with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. During the month of May, the 23d MDG challenges you to include 30 minutes of physical activity daily. Getting active increases your chances of living longer and can help you: · Control your blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight · Raise your High-density lipoprotein, good cholesterol · Prevent heart disease, colorectal cancer and Type 2 diabetes The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend two hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. Moderate activity includes walking fast, dancing, biking or raking leaves. Do strengthening activities, like situps and pushups, at least two days a week. Be sure to strengthen all major muscle groups including the legs, hips, back, chest, stomach, shoulders and arms. By getting active, you will sleep better, strengthen your bones and lower your risk of depression.
