A big, yellow ribbon was cut June 11, signifying the grand opening of a new headquarters for the 93d Air Ground Operations Wing, the 23d Mission Support Group and eight other offices.

The new building will compliment the adjacent Parker Greene Base Support Center, which is home to the 23d Wing headquarters.

"This is a monumental moment in Team Moody history," said U.S. Air Force Col. Billy Thompson. "This building symbolizes and solidifies the partnership of the 23d WG and the 93d AGOW. We are honored to host the 93d AGOW headquarters and the 820th Base Defense Group at Moody as they train and provide expeditionary Battlefield Airmen for service to our nation. I could not think of a better counterpart to complete the Team Moody family."

The $10.2 million building has 36, 154 square feet for 121 resident personnel. The building puts a focus on security with an entry control point for the command post.

"The new command post has a state of the art incident response location," said Aubrey Gill, 23d Civil Engineer Squadron mechanical engineer and project manager. "In the event of a natural disaster or other incident, the building could be a benefit to the Air Force and the local community.

"The building also has a 6-inch raised floor," he added. "We designed this building with future use in mind. The raised floor design makes it much easier to renovate or change the layout of an office."

Energy conservation was also a goal for the new building.

"This building sets the bar for our conservation initiatives by qualifying as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design 'silver' workplace by the U.S. Green Building Council," said Thompson. "LEED certification provides a national, third-party verification that a building project is environmentally responsible, energy efficient, profitable and a healthy place to work. Moody strives to be a good steward of our resources and is proud to have met such a high standard"

Another goal of the project was to provide modern, comfortable facilities to the occupants.

"Having a comfortable, energy efficient and safe office increases efficiency," said Gill.

The two headquarters buildings sit side by side, linked by the President George W. Bush Air Park at Moody Field.

"Lastly, completion of this building complements the 23d WG Parker Greene Base Support Center to the south and the President George W. Bush Air Park between them," said Thompson. "As a group, they now create a focal point for all visitors to our base, and complete a 20-year master plan to improve the center of Moody for future generations of Airmen."
